Derm Bandage aftercare Instructions

Once your tattoo is done, a derm bandage (commonly called Saniderm or second skin) will be applied to your tattoo. This bandage will stay on your tattoo for 5 to 7 days and do the bulk of the healing for you. The bandage is water resistant and breathable so feel free to shower as normal. After 5-7 days slowly remove the bandage while under warm water. Cleanse with an unscented antibacterial soap like Dial Gold. Air dry or pat dry with a clean paper towel and apply an unscented petroleum free lotion like Lubriderm when dry (only use a little and make sure to fully rub it into your tattoo with clean hands). You will see dark grey fluid build up under your bandage, this is normal, the fluid will dry and your tattoo will look dark and blurry under the bandage. If your bandage starts to leek or peel remove bandage and message me for further instructions . Things to note, check your bandage after exposure to water. If the fluid in the bandage looks clear remove the bandage and message me. If you experience irritation and redness around the bandage remove and message me. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Traditional Aftercare

Only follow this aftercare if you did not receive a derm bandage due to placement or allergies. Following your tattoo a temporary wrap will be placed over your tattoo to protect it on your ride home. Do not keep this wrap on for longer than 2 hours. After taking off the wrap wash tattoo 2-3 times a day for the first 3-4 days with warm soapy water being careful not to let the water run directly on your new tattoo. Use an unscented antibacterial soap like Dial Gold. After washing use a clean paper towel and pat dry or air dry your tattoo. For the first 5 days it is important to keep your tattoo protected and moisturized. I recommend using a tattoo ointment like Recovery Tattoo salve, Inkeeze Tattoo Glide, or Hustle Butter. Take a small amount on the tip of a clean finger and apply to your tattoo rubbing it thoroughly into your tattoo. Do not glob it on, start small add more if needed. Your tattoo should have a slight sheen but not look shiny or greasy. After day 5 switch to an unscented petroleum free lotion like Lubriderm and apply a small amount when dry making sure to thoroughly rub it in. Repeat when needed for about 1 week or until your tattoo is healed. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Touch Ups

A free touch up is included with your tattoo within 6 months, after that touch up cost is determined on a case by case basis.
